Privacy Policy

Chalk It Out (“we”, “us”) is a travel planner at chalkitout.net. This policy explains what information we collect when you use it, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@chalkitout.net.

1. What we collect

  • Account details: your name and email address. If you sign up with an email and password, your password is stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form that nobody can read back. If you log in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
  • What you plan: trip names, dates, budgets, days, stops and anything else you type into a trip.
  • Documents you upload: tickets, bookings, ID copies and other files, with their names and sizes. Only upload what you're comfortable keeping here.
  • People you add: the email addresses of people you invite to a trip or share a file with.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser type and the time of each request, kept in our providers' service logs, plus the cookies that keep you logged in.

2. How we use it

  • To run Chalk It Out: save your trips and files and show them to you and the people you choose.
  • To keep you logged in and your account secure.
  • To send account emails, such as confirming your email address or resetting your password.
  • To find and fix problems, and to stop misuse.

We only look at the contents of your trips or files if you ask us to (for example, to help with a problem) or if the law requires it.

3. Who can see your information

  • People on a trip can see its itinerary, dates and budget, and the names and email addresses of the other people on it. The trip's owner decides who is on it and who can edit.
  • Documents are private to you. Being on the same trip doesn't let anyone open your files. Only the specific people you share a file with can open it, after logging in, and you can remove their access at any time.
  • Service providers who run parts of Chalk It Out for us, under their own privacy and security terms:
    • Supabase: our database, logins and file storage. Your data is stored in Mumbai, India.
    • Vercel: hosts the website. Requests may be handled on servers outside India.
    • Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google” to log in.
  • Authorities, if we are legally required to share information, for example by a court order.

4. Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you logged in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

5. How we protect it

Everything travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Rules inside our database make sure each person can only reach their own trips and files, plus what has been shared with them. Links to open a file stop working after one minute. No online service can promise perfect security, so please keep your password safe and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account, your trips and your uploaded files within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep something for longer. Trips you were added to by someone else stay with that trip's owner, but without your name on them.

7. Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct or update it;
  • delete it, along with your account;
  • let someone you nominate act for you if you die or can't act yourself.

Email hello@chalkitout.net and we will reply within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

8. Children

If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must agree to this policy and to our Terms on your behalf before you use Chalk It Out. A parent or guardian who believes their child has used Chalk It Out without permission can email hello@chalkitout.net and we will delete the account.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your information in an important way, we will tell you by email or on the website before it takes effect.
